What Is Joshua's Law?

Joshua's Law is a Georgia state requirement that all teen drivers ages 15–17 must complete a 30-hour driver education course before receiving their Class D intermediate license. Named in memory of Joshua Brown, this law ensures new teen drivers receive proper training before getting behind the wheel.

Our course is 100% online, fully approved by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), and can be completed entirely from your computer, tablet, or phone. No classroom visits required.

What Does the Georgia Joshua's Law Course Cover?

Our 30-hour online driver education course meets all Georgia DDS requirements and covers everything a new teen driver needs to know before getting behind the wheel. Topics include:

  • Georgia traffic laws and road signs
  • Right-of-way rules and intersections
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Hazard recognition and avoidance
  • Driving in adverse weather conditions
  • Highway and interstate driving
  • Alcohol, drugs, and impaired driving
  • Distracted driving and cell phone laws
  • Sharing the road with pedestrians and cyclists
  • Vehicle maintenance and safety checks

The course uses engaging video content, interactive lessons, and quizzes to help Georgia teens build the knowledge they need for safe driving. It fulfills the classroom portion of Joshua's Law — you'll still need to complete 40 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel practice separately.

Parents: What You Need to Know About Teen Driving in Georgia

If your teen is getting ready to drive in Georgia, here's a quick overview of what's required and how you can help them get their license safely.

  • Joshua's Law is mandatory — all Georgia teens ages 15–17 must complete a 30-hour driver education course before getting their Class D license. There are no exceptions or waivers.
  • Online classes are DDS-approved — your teen can complete the entire 30-hour course online from home. No need to drive to a classroom or work around a fixed schedule.
  • You provide the behind-the-wheel practice — Georgia requires 40 hours of supervised driving (6 at night) with a licensed adult 21+. This is separate from the online course and is done on your own time.
  • The learner's permit comes first — your teen must be at least 15, pass the DDS knowledge and vision tests, and have a Certificate of Enrollment (DS-1) to get their learner's permit (Class CP).
  • Class D license at 16 — after holding the permit for 12 months, completing Joshua's Law, logging 40 practice hours, and passing the road skills test, your teen can get their intermediate license.

Our online Joshua's Law course makes it easy for busy families — your teen can study at their own pace from any device, and you can track their progress. Enroll today for just $39.95 and check one major requirement off the list.
